Programmable Power Supplies & Loads
LM-79 Photometric Testing is a recognized method used to analyze the light output and electrical behavior of LED lighting products under controlled laboratory conditions. At KC India Test Laboratories LLP, we provide precise and standards-aligned LM-79 testing services to evaluate the performance of modern solid-state lighting systems. This testing framework defines how LED fixtures should be measured to obtain accurate data regarding illumination and power characteristics. The test is conducted at a fixed environmental condition, giving a clear snapshot of how the product performs at a specific operating point.
Understanding LM-79 Photometric Evaluation
LM-79 testing outlines a uniform approach for assessing both light and electrical properties of LED-based products such as luminaires and lamps. The updated standard, IES LM-79-19, provides detailed procedures for measuring parameters including total light output, beam distribution, color consistency, and energy consumption. This evaluation focuses on capturing accurate performance data at a defined condition rather than predicting long-term degradation, making it essential for baseline performance verification.
LM-79 Testing Procedure and Methodology
The LM-79 testing process is carried out using high-precision photometric and electrical instruments within a controlled testing environment. At KC India Test Laboratories LLP, products are tested using integrating spheres, goniophotometers, and advanced electrical analyzers. During testing, key electrical parameters such as RMS voltage, RMS current, active power, power factor, harmonic distortion, and frequency are recorded. Simultaneously, optical characteristics like luminous flux, intensity distribution, and correlated color temperature are measured. The controlled setup ensures repeatable and highly accurate results as per LM-79 guidelines.
Importance of LM-79 Testing for LED Products
LM-79 testing is essential for verifying the performance and efficiency of LED lighting solutions before they are introduced into the market. It provides reliable data that supports product certification, comparison, and compliance with industry requirements. Lighting products used across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors depend on this testing to validate brightness levels, energy usage, and operational consistency. By following LM-79 standards established by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), manufacturers can ensure their products meet global quality benchmarks and deliver dependable performance in real-world applications.
